A short poem about Afghanistan — a land raw, wild and hauntingly beautiful.

I have shawls from Afghanistan
Woven into the tapestry of my heart

I lie awake at night
Saying the endless farewells
That cannot untie the tender knots

I try to unpick the tangled bits
But the needle keeps drawing blood
And the patterns repeat…
